The course is run in association with Mikeysline and is led by Linda Birnie from Thinking Space. It provides participants with an understanding of mental health and the role of a Mental Health First Aider, covering topics such as attitudes and equalities, recovery, the impact of alcohol and drugs, suicide intervention, listening skills, depression, anxiety and psychosis. It develops the knowledge and confidence needed to recognise when someone may be experiencing mental health difficulties, offer appropriate initial support, and reduce the stigma and fear surrounding mental health. The course does not train participants to become mental health professionals; instead, Mental Health First Aid is intended as an initial response, providing support until suitable or professional help can be accessed.
The course runs between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th October. Refreshments and lunch will be provided on each day (please let us know in advance if you have any dietary requirements).
